Two Friends. One Truck.
When A#1 Service Heroes started, it could not have been a worst possible time. During the 2008 Mortgage Crisis, Gonzalo Zapata had returned from his annual vacation and was laid off from a larger, well-known plumbing company in the valley. It was not an easy time - this certainly did not make it any easier.
Just after Gonzalo's release, Daniel Castillo decided to jump ship as well. Originally, the intention was for Daniel to learn how to do some plumbing work. Ultimately, it turned in to a once-in-a-lifetime friendship and an AMAZING Service Business. (We may be biased on the last part.)
It started with Gonzalo and Daniel driving around town in Gonzalo's black Ford Ranger. They didn't have decals, so they had to improvise in order to get into some of the gated communities here in the desert. They had hand-written signs that said "Gonzalo's Plumbing" and "Daniel's Air Conditioning" - you can't be prideful when you're just beginning!
They never let it stop them. As they brought on their first employee - they realized that their mission had to change. They couldn't be the technicians riding around in a truck anymore - they had to transition to being the mentor, the coach, the leader. For some technicians, this is the hardest thing to do - all they've ever known is service work.
It was never easy. It was countless hours of work at a grueling pace. It was dealing with vendors that wouldn't give you credit. It was learning to be a coach, instead of a technician. It was the beginning of who we are today - and we cannot be more proud of what has been accomplished.
Fast forward a few years, and A#1 Service Heroes now has more than 14 Vehicles on the Road. We've now been licensed for Air Conditioning, Plumbing and Electrical - as well as opened our second office in Mesa, Arizona. We have more than 25 "Heroes" on staff that work tirelessly to ensure that you're comfortable in your home. It's been a huge undertaking - but it's been rewarding.
Just a couple of years after the inception of A#1 Service Heroes, our first corporate meeting was held in the Burger King Playground in Palm Desert, California.
Yes, Burger King. That's right - the playground!
If our story could tell you one thing, it would be that perseverance always wins. That win may be small in nature, or may be huge - but sticking to your passion and working hard always pays off! Never let anyone tell you that you cannot do it. If you believe you can - you WILL!
