Are Air Conditioning Systems in Short Supply?

Just because 2020 is now in our rearview mirror does not mean that we will not feel the effects of the pandemic for many months to come. As time passes by, there are some commodities that are getting harder and harder to locate.

Let's talk about Air Conditioning and Heating Systems for the moment...

In late July of 2020, the HVAC Industry was hit hard with equipment shortages - and skyrocketing pricing. The only up-side of the delays last year was that it happened LATE in the season. This made it much easier to manage the expectations of customers, get the replacement equipment in-hand, and perform the replacement/upgrade.

It appears that this summer is going to be a "repeat" with delayed shipments, low inventory, and increasing material and equipment costs - especially considering that we are already experiencing delays in equipment availability.

What this means for consumers...

It is well-known that price increases get passed along to the consumer. But finding that important balance between price and profit is what we do best. While there's been a modest price increase from our equipment manufacturers, it is not the end of the world. The greater concern is the lack of material available in our market - especially when we peak over 120 Degrees this summer!

Here's what we recommend...

With or without the immediate need for replacement, if your HVAC System is more than 15 Years Old, we highly recommend considering preventative replacement of the HVAC System. Keep in mind, there are many factors that affect a air conditioning and heating system's longevity - but it is still a mechanical device with a limited lifetime.

Nah, I just need the refrigerant topped off...

While you're certainly welcome to add refrigerant to your HVAC System, did you know that a EPA-608 Refrigerant Handler cannot continue to add refrigerant to a system that has a "known" leak? That means that companies cannot - or better yet...should not...continue adding refrigerant to your HVAC System. These are sealed units, and should never require additional refrigerant unless there's a leak.

Also, as an FYI - Refrigerant Prices have also gone up 3x in the last 3 months. So even if you want to "just top it off" - that's getting more expensive to do as well. With all of the manufacturer promotions - it may be worth thinking about replacement. Here's a few advantages to upgrading your HVAC System.

  1. Efficiency Gain - New HVAC Systems have a rated efficiency between 14-20 SEER. On the higher end of this spectrum, it's quite common for homeowners to report a energy savings of up to 60% in the Summertime...and don't forget the increased comfort!

  2. Rebates - There are many manufacturer incentives to upgrade your HVAC System to a High-Efficiency HVAC System. Some of our Homeowners have received up to $4k in Manufacturer and Utility Rebates!

  3. Comfort - Forget what you've heard. There's a whole new level of COMFORT when you upgrade to a high-efficiency HVAC System. Higher-Efficiency Units often use Inverters to control the refrigeration cycle of the HVAC System. These units precisely monitor and adjust airflow and refrigerant flow to optimize cooling and efficiency.

  4. Peace of Mind - Probably one of the most important things that a new HVAC System delivers is total peace of mind for ten years! When you call on A1 Service Heroes to perform your upgrade, you can rest knowing that it will be done the RIGHT WAY!
